BNT asks public for help for awards nominations

Waterville: Headquarters of the Bermuda National Trust, located on The Lane in Paget

The Bermuda National Trust has called on the public to help them highlight the people and groups that have worked to protect and promote the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

The BNT has launched the public nomination period for its BNT Annual Awards to recognise those who made an impact over the past year.

Among the awards to be presented at the event this summer are the Heritage Education Awards, the Cultural Heritage Awards, the Natural Heritage Awards and the Outstanding Young Environmentalist Award.

Nominations will be researched and considered by BNT committees in advance of the ceremony on June 1.

The Heritage Education Awards are given to educational institutions, with teachers, parents and students invited to nominate their schools for programmes that demonstrate conservation or care for Bermuda’s natural or cultural heritage.

The Cultural Heritage Awards are presented for those who made a positive impact for Bermuda’s cultural heritage through conservation, advocacy or education.

Nominations in this category are for those who have protected or advocated for cultural heritage, historic buildings, the conservation of heritage sites or programmes to promote Bermuda’s cultural heritage.

The Natural Heritage Awards are presented to those who make a difference to protect Bermuda’s natural heritage, including protecting, restoring or advocating for the natural environment, inspiring appreciation and awareness of Bermuda’s natural heritage or conducting research that adds to our understanding of Bermuda’s natural heritage.

The Outstanding Young Environmentalist Award will be presented to a young person – under the age of 26 on December 31, 2022 – who has made “exceptional contributions” to the preservation of the island’s environment for a considerable length of time.

Nominations must be submitted by April 28 and will be accepted in all categories for the period June 2022 to May 2023.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from bnt.bm, or can be picked up at BNT’s office “Waterville” at 2 Pomander Road.

You must be Registered or to post comment or to vote.
