Men in serious condition after Southampton crash

Two men are in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash in Southampton last night.

The Bermuda Police Service and other emergency personnel responded to a call at about 10.40pm to attend a collision site on Middle Road near the junction with Scenic Heights Road.

The men, who are reported to have been travelling on motorcycles, suffered serious injuries and were transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Traffic diversions were temporarily in place between Camp Hill Road and Scenic Heights Road until 1am while investigators processed the scene.

There have been four road deaths already this year, after ten were recorded in 2022.

Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, has called the state of driving on the island a “national crisis”.

“We are losing our men and women, young and old, to the roads,” he told the House of Assembly in March. “From where I stand, this is a national crisis. We talk about it, but we don’t give it much thought.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision last night is asked to call Pc Imani Scott on 211 or e-mail iscott@bps.bm.
