Café plans unveiled for British American building

133 Front Street (Photograph from planning documents)

A planning application has proposed creating a café in the British American building on Front Street.

The application, submitted by Uplift, proposes a series of internal renovations to turn the ground level of the former office building at the intersection with King Street into a retail store and café.

The café would occupy the side of the building facing Front Street, with seating both on the porch and inside and the retail section would be behind it in the building.

The building was once the home of the Bermuda branch of the British American Insurance Company. However, the building was sold after the branch folded and went into liquidation in 2009.
