Masterworks Charman Prize deadline approaches

The deadline for The Charman Prize, which is hosted by Masterworks Museum and is open to all local artists, is approaching, with submissions being accepted through the end of the month.

This year the theme is “The Local Seen”, which the museum hopes will highlight the “diversity of artistic expressions that embody the spirit and essence of Bermuda”.

The museum emphasised its commitment to cultivating the creativity and talent of local artists.

For the competition, it welcomes emerging and experienced artists wishing to showcase their artwork on an established platform.

John Charman is the sponsor of the prize, which is the product of his continuing support of the art community.

Risa Hunter, the executive director of Masterworks Museum, added that the “competition not only encourages the growth and development of our local artists but also inspires the entire community to engage with and appreciate the beauty and creativity that surrounds us".

This year’s competition will add two new international judges to the panel of two art professionals and one international artist.

They will assess the artistic submissions based on originality, technical skill, creativity and pertinence to the theme.

The first-place award will be a $10,000 cash prize.

In each of the four judging categories, a winner will receive $2,500. There will also be a People’s Choice Award.

The application deadline is August 31, and artwork must be delivered on either September 1 or September 2.

The Charman Prize exhibition will be open to the public from December 16 to March 31, 2024.
