Local musician writes song to celebrate Somerset’s Cup Match legacy

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

A local musician has focused on something close to home for her latest song — Somerset Cricket Club.

Hat Trick, written and performed by Janita Burke, will pay tribute to the club’s rich history when it is released on all major music platforms on Thursday.

While Ms Burke had written the song in anticipation of a third consecutive Cup Match victory for the team, Somerset instead settled for a draw in the 2023 Annual Classic.

“While that [hat-trick win] wasn't achieved, Somerset has scored five hat-tricks in the history of Cup Match and those should be celebrated,” she said.

A press statement from Kairos XXII Productions, said Ms Burke “masterfully weaves together the shared joy of sports victories with the historical importance of the Cup Match cricket classic”.
