Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, thanked the public for making the Christmas holiday a peaceful one and emergency services for their hard work.

In a statement, Mr Weeks said: “I am grateful to our community that there were no reports of significant incidents of violence or tragedy during the Christmas and Boxing Day period.

"By and large, we maintained the essence of the holidays through responsible celebrations, prioritising the safety and wellbeing of the community.

“I hope we can sustain this peaceful spirit over the New Year’s Holiday Weekend. I urge everyone to prioritise safety and exercise caution and responsibility.

“I would also like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the dedicated efforts of essential workers and emergency personnel who served our community well during the festive period.”

The Bermuda Police Service announced earlier this week that 15 people were arrested over the Christmas period, between Friday night and Wednesday morning.

Of those arrests, almost half were for drinking and driving.

According to a public notice, Roadside Sobriety Checkpoints will be in effect across all nine parishes this weekend as the island rings in 2024.
