Revised Fairmont Southampton giveaway a success
The Fairmont Southampton hotel continued its furniture giveaway as plans to renovate the complex gather steam.
Cushions, chairs and pillows were handed out to members of the public during the hotel’s first run at distributing its wares through an appointment-based system.
Last month, the hotel allowed the public to claim old furniture on a “first come, first served” basis.
The giveaway was cancelled the same morning it took place over safety concerns after a crowd of about 1,000 people clogged up the entrance to the grounds.
Organisers went back to the drawing board and instead put together an appointment-based system in partnership with Ptix, where those interested booked a time slot online.
The first day, Tuesday, was reserved exclusively for seniors, and they were helped out by organisers and good Samaritans with vans.
