Motorcyclist dies in Sandys crash

Bermuda recorded its fifth road fatality of the year after a rider succumbed following a two-vehicle collision in Sandys on Saturday.

The Bermuda Police Service said that at 4.17pm, officers and other first responders responded to the scene of the collision on Somerset Road near the junction with West Side Road in Sandys.

A spokeswoman said while details were limited, the incident involved a taxi and a motorcycle.

The rider succumbed at the scene while the taxi driver was not believed to have been injured.

The previous death on the island’s roads was recorded on February 18. Wilton Woolridge Jr, 52, lost his life after he was seriously injured in a crash at the junction of Barkers Hill, North Shore Road and Palmetto Road in Devonshire.

Witnesses to the incident were urged to contact the Roads Policing Unit of the BPS on 247-1788.
