The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors hopes to recognise graduating middle and high school pupils for leadership, perseverance and other positive qualities.

A ministry spokeswoman said schools, charities, community and youth organisations, sports clubs and churches can nominate outstanding young people through the inaugural Youth Trailblazers Out Front initiative.

She explained that the awards will celebrate students who have shown “achievement, perseverance, service, creativity, leadership and strong character”.

Students in their final year of middle and senior school, or enrolled in private or specialised programmes, can be nominated in categories such as academic achievement, community impact, leadership and service, and sports achievement.

One overall Youth Trailblazer will be chosen.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said: “Beyond the accolades, this initiative is about the heart of our youth.

“I am deeply moved by the quiet strength and vibrant spirit our students show every day.

“I want every graduate to feel, down to their core, that they are seen, valued and immensely loved by their community.

“You are the heartbeat of Bermuda and we couldn’t be prouder of the path you are blazing.”

The spokeswoman added: “Honourees will be recognised through public profiles, ministerial acknowledgement, digital features and a flag installation on Front Street, offering a visible moment of pride within the community.”

Ms Furbert added: “When we take the time to recognise our young people, we do more than applaud their achievements — we fuel their confidence, affirm their potential and inspire others to rise.

“Celebrating our youth is an investment in the future and a joyful reminder that greatness is already growing among us every single day.”
