The Bermuda Scout Association Commissioner has been recognised for his commitment to scouting.

A statement said Geoffrey Rothwell discussed the importance of friendship, service and helping others after receiving the UK Scout Association’s Silver Acorn Award during a St George’s Day service, led by Pastor David Trott Sr, on April 26.

The Silver Acorn Award is typically given to individuals who have contributed about 20 years of service to scouting.

Scouts, existing and former Scout leaders, parents and supporters participated in the St George’s Day Parade, led by the Bermuda Pipe Band, from the Botanical Gardens to Peace Lutheran Church.

Participants also recognised Conor Sinclair, who received the King’s Scout Award — the highest recognition in scouting — at Windsor Castle last month.

Mr Sinclair is the first Bermuda Scout to receive the award by King Charles III and the first since Lieutenant-Colonel Benjamin Beasley, a former Royal Bermuda Regiment Commanding Officer, and Collin Anderson, a Director of Policy and Regulation at the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers and former permanent secretary with the Government, both earned the Queen’s Scout prize in 1998.

Dr Rothwell presented Chief Scout awards to Rayyan Haffer and Oliver Thompson, who completed “nine core challenge badges, six activity badges and meaningful personal challenge, demonstrating initiative, teamwork, commitment, nights away and an expedition challenge”.
