Government to host second housing town hall on Tuesday
Members of the public can share their thoughts on proposed housing developments in the West End during a town hall on Tuesday.
A government spokeswoman said the forum at Mount Zion AME Church Hall will discuss the developments planned for Victoria Place and Albert Row in Sandys and adjacent to Dr Cann Park in Southampton.
A total of 160 units, comprising one, two and three-bedroom accommodations, are set to be built at these three sites, which are all managed by the Bermuda Housing Corporation and the Bermuda Land Management Corporation, within the next 18 months.
Zane DeSilva, the Minister of Housing and Municipalities, earlier said that precast concrete construction proved to be “the absolute best solution” for these units.
Residents can ask questions and learn about the objectives, timelines and features of the proposed developments during the town hall, set to run from 6.30pm to 8pm.
The meeting comes days after a similar town hall addressed proposed developments at Tommy Fox Road and Channel House in St David’s.
Mr DeSilva, who is also the Deputy Premier, said at that forum that these homes would be available for rent and to purchase, and that the developments would “inject critical inventory into our housing market.”
He said on Sunday: “Affordable housing remains one of the Government’s highest priorities and we are committed to ensuring that residents have every opportunity to learn about these projects and share their views.
“These town hall meetings are an important part of the process, allowing us to engage directly with the community, answer questions and gather valuable feedback as we work to deliver quality, affordable homes for residents.”
