Hundreds braved the June heat to celebrate Caribbean culture and music during the Revel De Road parade through Pembroke and Devonshire yesterday.

The parade, one of the final events of National Heroes Weekend, kicked off at City Hall car park at about 12.50pm, with revellers then heading along Cedar Avenue to Marsh Folly, Palmetto Road and Palmetto Park for the first lap.

Krystal Nicole learnt about Carnival in Bermuda through Instagram and is visiting the island from North Carolina for the first time, to participate.

She said: “I’ve had the time of my life this weekend, an absolute blast, I’ve celebrated Carnival in Antigua too, I look forward to celebrating Caribbean culture.”

Several international content creators, including footballer and author Michail Antonio and American Zoe Spencer, are also visiting Bermuda to participate in carnival celebrations.

Bermudian Gina Thompson, participating in her ninth Bermuda carnival, said: “The vibe keeps me coming back — it’s a lot of fun and you get a chance to free up and just express yourself.”

Ms Thompson previously celebrated carnival in Barbados and attended several other events — including Pure, Evolve and Waves featuring world-renown artist Machel Montano, this week.

Discussing her colourful accessories, she said: “I need my feathers, they don’t call me ‘Carnival Queen’ for nothing.”

The second lap of Revel De Road will start from Palmetto Park at 4pm, continue along North Shore Road to Blackwatch Pass and Marsh Folly Road, onto Cedar Avenue and conclude at Dutton Avenue at about 8pm.
