A fire has broken out near sunset this evening in the Dockyard area, sending a column of black smoke from what appears to be the vicinity of the Sally Port dump.

Footage showed a major blaze in progress from about 8pm.

Unofficial word from police officers at the scene by 9pm suggested that the fire was largely contained. There were no injuries reported, but plumes of thick smoke.
