Bermuda was represented in London this month at the 70th anniversary of one of the Commonwealth’s most enduring leadership development traditions.

Lawyer Tammy Richardson‑Augustus, Bermuda’s lead representative for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conference, flew the flag for the island at a weeklong series of leadership engagements in the capital.

The CSC was founded by the late Duke and continues under the patronage of the Princess Royal.

Young leaders from business, governments, labour and civil society, are brought together in unfamiliar settings and exposed to different perspectives to cultivate insights for public service.

The anniversary dinner at St James’s Palace was said to be the defining moment of the week.

Hosted by Sir Alan Parker, chairman of the CSC, and held under the auspices of the Princess as president of the CSC, the gathering brought together sponsors, distinguished alumni and Commonwealth representatives to honour the great experiment launched by Prince Philip in 1956.

The palace dinner was framed by a series of events, opening with a mini study tour in the London Borough of Ilford.

The second day provided a platform for a discussion on how the 8,000-strong CSC network might unlock deeper partnerships and accelerate collective impact across the Commonwealth.

Ms Richardson‑Augustus also participated in a leadership forum at Marlborough House.

She said: “From my side, it’s incredible that Bermuda can be at that table and it helps us to reinvigorate relationships across the Commonwealth.”

The next CSC is set to take place in Australia in October.

Other CSC Bermuda alumni include Ed Ball Jr, co‑chairman of the CSC Bermuda chapter; Michael J Spurling; Donald Scott; Darren Johnston; David Dodwell; Terry Lister; Neville Grant; Jason Hayward; and Kristin White.
