Watch: service to celebrate life and legacy of Sir John Swan
Family, friends and the wider community are gathering this afternoon to honour the life and legacy of Sir John Swan.
A celebratory home-going service is taking place from 2pm at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Church Street, with a private interment to follow at St John’s Anglican Church cemetery.
Owing to limited seating at the venue, the family of the late former Premier have encouraged residents who wish to join in marking his life to do so via live stream at several venues in Hamilton.
They include Pier Six, the Cathedral Hall and the Earl Cameron Theatre.
The live stream — courtesy of CITV Bermuda, on the Government’s YouTube channel — will also run on this page.
Sir John, a successful businessman and the island’s longest-serving premier, passed away at the age of 90 this month.
Residents were reminded today that government offices would close at midday as a mark of respect, although some public services will continue to operate.
