Body discovered in waters off Southampton

A man was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon after his body was found in the ocean at the West End.

Police said officers and others responded just before 3.15pm to a report of “an unresponsive male found floating in the waters just off Pompano Beach, Southampton”.

A spokesman said the man had been found by a group of tourists kayaking near by.

Emergency medical services staff commenced life-saving measures before he was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon afterwards.

The spokesman added: “An investigation into this sudden death has now commenced and no further information will be provided at this time.”
