A longstanding police officer and cricket legend has been acclaimed for his service by the Bermuda Police Service as he retires after nearly 40 years in uniform.

Pc Dwayne “Sluggo” Leverock was joined by family when BPS senior command and colleagues celebrated him as a “true professional” who took young officers under his wing during his career.

The BPS praised him as “a voice of reason, with the ability to de-escalate volatile situations”, who also gave advice and guidance to ranking officers based upon his many years of service in various departments throughout the BPS.

Police acknowledged Mr Leverock’s far-reaching sports reputation in the 2007 International Cricket Council World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago, and his one-handed catch against the India team — but said that “we'd like to think the former left arm spinner was an even better police officer”.

Mr Leverock was thanked for “sticking to the wicket for what has been a long and productive innings, in service to the people of Bermuda”.
