Almost $2.5 million in contracts were signed to cover upgrades to the National Sports Centre.

According to notices published under public access to information requirements, the four contracts — worth a combined $2.45 million — cover structural and lighting work, as well as the repaving of the site’s parking area.

Brunel Engineering Consultants received a contract to provide structural inspections and recommendations for grandstand roof and associated lighting columns, as well as electrical repairs, light stand repairs and project management.

The $880,000 contract had a start date of May 15, 2026 and an end date of March 31 next year.

Surface Experts Ltd received a $783,726 contract to pave the main parking lot area at the National Sports Centre, with work covering 24,213 sq ft.

The contract had a start date of July 1 and an end date of September 30.

The company was also awarded a contract to review fixed asset register and supporting documents.

That arrangement included the provision of quality surveying measurements and other assessments.

The $57,155 contract had a start date of August 1 and an end date of November 30.

Meanwhile, Musco Sports Lighting LLC was hired to upgrade all LED sports lights on north field to international football, cricket and rugby standards, including associated electrical and structural works and installation.

The contract, valued at $725,000, had a start date of July 1 and an end date of March 31 next year.

Public authorities are required, under the Public Access to Information Act, to have published in the Official Gazette details of all contracts with a total value of $50,000 or more.

In the 2026-27 Budget, the National Sports Centre received a $2.5 million capital grant, up significantly from the $800,000 received in the previous fiscal year.

Lighting at the facility was upgraded in 2022, with the NSC switching to more efficient LED bulbs as part of an effort to reduce energy bills along with the installation of solar panels.

In May 2025, Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said the renewable energy project, including the change in lighting, had resulted in a 51 per cent savings in the site’s electricity bill.
