Charitable hot dog day proves a scary success
Members of the public enjoyed food, music and community spirit at an annual fundraiser on Saturday.
A statement from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda said mentors, mentees, parents, charity staff and members of the board volunteered during the Spooktacular hot dog day.
The statement explained: “The Littles played an especially important role, enthusiastically serving hot dogs, drinks, popcorn and snacks while interacting with members of the community.”
It added that organisers ran out of hot dogs, provided by BGA and prepared by chef Michiko Campbell, during the event at Gorham’s.
DJ LA provided music at the fundraiser, which also featured daring participants trying to eat hot dogs piled with Takis chips.
Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda managing director, thanked sponsors and volunteers who helped support the fundraiser, which she said the children look forward to every year.
She explained: “They are always asking when Hot Dog Day is coming, and when the day arrives, they show up ready and excited to help.”
Ms O’Connor-Paynter added: “It's wonderful to see them working alongside their Bigs, parents, staff and board members, developing confidence, teamwork and a sense of responsibility while giving back to the community.”
Funds raised will support the charity’s mentoring programmes for young people.
