Berkeley Institute wins Senior School Netball Tournament
The Berkeley Institute defeated CedarBridge Academy 12-9 to win the Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Netball tournament at Bernard Park on Wednesday.
CedarBridge jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the final with Rihanna Reddicks leading the way, but Berkeley slowly found their footing and trailed just 7-4 at the halfway mark.
It was in the second half that Berkeley found their scoring touch with a run of six unanswered goals and with the teams exchanging late goals they managed to hold on to their lead.
Makaylie Smith led Berkeley with eight goals and Haley Trott contributed four. Reddicks finished the match with five goals for CedarBridge and was ably assisted by Jamir Hatherley, who scored four.
Warwick Academy Blue defeated CedarBridge Blue 12 -4 in the third-place match. Adriana Argent finished top scorer with seven and Shayla Cann added five. Xola Rollins and Kisaye Bell both scored twice for CedarBridge.
Somersfield Academy edged past Bermuda High School 4-3 in the battle to determine fifth place. Kennedy Kowalski scored twice for Somersfield with Zarah Sidiki and Satya Darrell adding one each. Caitlin Neijmeijer scored twice for BHS while Sophie Jones also got on the scoresheet.
CedarBridge Red defeated CedarBridge Blue 19-2 in the semi final. Hatherley was unstoppable, scoring 15 goals with Reddicks adding 4. Bell and Rollins again shared goalscoring duties for the blues with one apiece.
Berkeley defeated Warwick Academy blue in the other semi-final. Trott and Smith scored five goals each. Cann scored three for Warwick with Argent chipping in with another.
