Sandys Boat Club complete comeback to clinch league title

Sandys Boat Club produced a stunning comeback to clinch a third successive Bermuda Snooker Association League title in dramatic fashion at Warwick Workmen’s Club on Tuesday.

After trailing 2-0 to rivals Watford Sports Club, the trio of captain Martin Siese, Peter Bromby and Paul Fedden turned their fortunes around to pull off a hard fought 3-2 win in an exciting league play-off.

Watford captain Aaron Bean defeated Bromby in the opening two frames to put his team firmly in the driver’s seat.

However, it was game on after Fedden defeated rival Winslow Smith in the third frame to revive his team’s title hopes.

Fedden then teamed up with Sandys Boat Club captain Siese for the doubles frame, which they won against Watford’s Kidd Mouchette and Keino Zuill to level the match at 2-2.

With the title hanging in the balance, Siese prevailed over Zuill in the deciding frame to seal the deal.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Todd Dziak defeated Jacal Washington 2-1 in Bermuda Open Singles quarter-final action at Spanish Point Boat Club.

Dziak will now take on Bean in the semi-final at Watford Sports Club on a date yet to be confirmed.

Steven Bremar will face Bromby in the remaining semi-final with the final to be held on April 29 at Warwick Workmen’s Club.

Also keeping their title hopes alive was the team of Stewart Greenslade and Chris Dakin who edged rivals Bremar and Zane DeSilva 2-1 in a Bermuda Open Doubles quarter-final contest at Warwick Workmen’s Club on Monday.

Greenslade and Dakin will now go up against Scott Barnes and Stephen Roberts in the semi -final at Spanish Point Boat Club on April 12.

The winner will then face former champions Fedden and Tyler Moniz in the final at Sandys Boat Club on April 15.

Meanwhile, Island Construction Services Cup action also continued this week with hosts Royal Artillery Association defeating Spanish Point Boat Club 3-1 in the semi-final.

Spanish Point's Dziak beat Fred Richardson in the opening frame before RAA's Kyle Williams got past Alan Smith in the second to level the match.

The hosts were awarded the third frame after Spanish Point’s fourth player was ruled out through injury.

RAA captain Jacal Washington then took down Greenslade to clinch victory and secure his team’s spot in the final against defending champions Sandys Boat Club at Spanish Point on a date yet to be confirmed.
