Moongate Brewers kick off new season in style

Moongate Brewers got the new Softball Bermuda League season off to a winning start after overcoming The Hit Factory 29–21.

Danny Cook, Kyle Steineman, Terence Corday and Mike Sakata led the way for Brewers in the Division A encounter. Hit Factory’s Steve Simons led all batters and was supported by Shaq Trott in a losing effort. A big ten-run fourth inning including a grand-slam by Cook put Brewers ahead 22–10, a lead that they would not relinquish.

In Division B, Team Smokey made light work of newcomers, Hosers, thrashing them 24–4 in four innings. Quincy Jones, Dion Ball and Devin Saltus did most of the damage in what was a balanced offensive display. Hosers could only manage four total team hits with Sam Trewick-Coleman leading their attack.

In women’s action, PHC Zebras were too strong for Hardknockz winning with a commanding score of 19–8. Tawana Lee, Ria Grenado, Ambya Smith and Jashonte Trott led the charge for PHC. Sarah Robinson and Tracey Marshall each had two hits for Hardknockz.

In Division D action, Bad News Beers enjoyed a dream debut as a new member team, overcoming Five O’s 11–6.

Five O’s looked as if they would be too strong for The Beers after Deforest Evans hit a second inning home run, however, their offence then stuttered and the opposition eventually found their rhythm and produced four unanswered runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

Charlie Dutranoit and Billy Boyle topped all Beers batters while Alex Rollins and Jonathon Talbot led Five O’s offence.

Two new teams, St George’s Cricket Club, and The Pitch Invaders battled it out in the only other game in this division with the former prevailing in 19-8 success. Zeko Burgess and Onias Bascome were the pick of St George’s players, while Keisha Simmons and Kejon Butterfield led Pitch Invaders in defeat.

In Division E, Butterfield & Vallis Sliders eased past Home None with a 19–4 victory with Chris Mayne, Marcus Johnson, Daemon Hanley and Samuel Viera doing most of the damage.
