Owen Darrell, the minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, recently had a meeting with Shaun Goater to discuss local football and youth development.

Darrell reflected on the opportunity to speak with the former Manchester City striker, who now works within the club’s academy set-up, about the ministry's ambitions for the island’s young people in sport.

“I was pleased to chat with Shaun about our Ministry’s vision and focus for Bermuda’s young people particularly as it relates to sports,” he said,

“We talked about our National Sports Policy as well as our recently launched High-Performance Sponsorship programme, which provides funding for athletes who are doing amazing things on the local and world sports stage.

“We’ve seen some amazing success with our young people and elite athletes, and I told Shaun that the Government is committed to ensuring that our athletes are properly supported.

“It was an honour to meet with Shaun and have a robust discussion about the role and importance of sports in our community.”
