Bermuda’s archers come up short at Olympic qualifier in Turkey

Camerin Pickering in action in Turkey

Bermuda’s archers fell short of their objective at the final world archery Olympic qualifier in Antalya, Turkey on Monday.

Camerin Pickering and Jaydon Roberts bowed out of the men’s recurve competition at the Antalya Sports Centre after losing their 1/48 elimination matches.

Pickering lost 7-3 against Vietnam’s Duc Nguyen Minh while Roberts went down 6-0 to Thailand’s Tanapat Pathairat.

The local pair cleared the first hurdle after advancing from the opening qualification round on Saturday, with Pickering posting a score of 618 and Roberts 608.

Also representing the island at the competition was Bernard Wade III, who was eliminated after a score of 557 in the qualifying round left him short of the cut.

Pickering, Roberts and Wade will now shift their focus to trying to secure one of the available individual and team Olympic spots competing in the Antalya Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 3, which starts on Tuesday at the same venue and runs until Sunday.

The trio will be joined by compatriot Robin Selley, who is competing in the women’s recurve competition and is making her debut at the event.
