Active Kids Sports Academy set to launch
A new 12-week programme designed by the Department of Sport and Recreation to inspire and nurture the next generation of athletes is to be launched in the next few days.
Registration for the Active Kids Sports Academy, a transformative programme focused on developing fundamental sports skills, fun, fitness and teamwork in a safe and engaging environment, opens on Sunday until December 20 with limited spots available.
The Active Kids Sports Academy offers two tailored programmes, with Tiny Titans for children aged 4 to 7 and Junior Jaguars for those aged 8 to 10. Each group will enjoy twice-weekly sessions led by expert coaches, with exposure to sports such as gymnastics, swimming, archery and rugby.
Tiny Titans benefit from 45 to 60-minute sessions with an emphasis on balance, co-ordination and fitness through structured, age-appropriate activities, while the Junior Jaguars participate in 60-minute sessions that rotate sports every three weeks, fostering core fitness, sportsmanship and self-confidence.
Owen Darrell, the sports minister, is delighted that the programme will soon be up and running,
“This academy is more than just sport,” Darrell said.
“It’s a platform where children of all abilities can discover the joys of physical activity, develop leadership skills and build lasting friendships. The team at the Department of Sport and Recreation will expose our young athletes to multiple sports, with the aim of enhancing their agility, co-ordination and cognitive abilities while promoting teamwork and healthy competition.”
The cost of the programme is $150, which includes coaching, high-quality equipment and a supportive learning environment. Families are encouraged to apply early with places limited.
