Sandys Boat Club captain Martin Siese led from the front to help his team achieve a whitewash over visiting Watford Sports Club in the Keen Cup final.

Trailing rival Kyle Williams by 21 points, the experienced snooker player and sailor reeled off 22 consecutive points to prevail 49-48 in a tight contest and clinch his team’s 3-0 win in the West End derby final.

“Kyle knocked me out of the Bermuda Open singles convincingly so I was anxious to get one back on him,” Siese told The Royal Gazette.

“It was a very close game again. He got an excellent snooker on me late in the game that I couldn’t get out of and was 21 points ahead of me at that point.

“I then had a good pot on the brown and ran the colours from the brown to win by one point, which is very satisfying when that happens.

“If you’re a bit behind you are always angling to just be in a position to do that and not get snookered, so I was fortunate that the points spread was such that I could do that.”

Henryk Marszalek got Sandys off to the perfect start with a 57-32 win against Watford’s Keino Zuill in the opening frame to place the hosts in the driver’s seat.

Olympic sailor Peter Bromby then doubled Sandys advantage after pulling off a 68-24 win against his opponent in the second frame to place his team on the brink of victory, which Seise completed with a frame to spare after staging an incredible comeback against Williams.

Watford captain Aaron Bean took matters in stride.

“We done our best but came up short,” he said.

“We also had a player from the pool to fill in for us because we was a man short. He played okay but Peter played really good and overall I am happy with our team.”
