Bermudian ten-pin bowler David Maycock is looking forward to competing against the best globally after being invited to the Professional Bowlers Association World Series of Bowling, taking place in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, from April 29 to June 13.

Maycock received one of the nine international exemptions for the event, which means that he is part of the main field.

“It’s been an honour to get the invitation,” Maycock told The Royal Gazette.

“I ended up putting the resume a month before I got selected. They only picked nine international exemptions and I was lucky to be one of them.

“I’m looking forward to representing myself and Bermuda at the World Series of Bowling. This tournament has all different countries from all over the world that come to compete, it’s actually one of the best tournaments on the PBA professional circuit.

“So I’m just looking forward to going out there competing with the best in the world. Hopefully, I can have a good showing and make a name for myself, but I can’t have a good showing if I’m not there.

“I’m scheduled to leave April 27 and come back May 6. But if I do well and make it to the top 12, that would be a dream come true.

“I’ve been to the World Series before, but this is the first time they had an international exemption.”

In the preparation for the tournament, Maycock is training with the national team. He is also part of the side preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games.

“We’re actually training with the national team a lot,” the 42-year-old said.

“We’re doing a lot of training and I’m just preparing myself more mentally this time. I know I’m doing it on the lanes too because we’re doing international.

“We’re going to have a lot of different oil patents. I have to attack every day and I have to go on a different patent.

“Hopefully, I get hot on all the patents. I’ll just go out there and have fun and let my opponent do the talking as I’ll be dealing with the best in the world.”
