Golfers invited to Port Royal to mark start of season

Bermuda’s golf season officially begins this weekend — according to Bermuda Golf Association.The association, in conjunction with the Bermuda Junior Golf Association, have invited players to meet at Port Royal Golf Course tomorrow at 5.30pm when information will be provided about the programmes and initiatives planned for the upcoming season.Registration for new members will take place on the driving range from 3.30pm to 5pm.The BJGA are reintroducing their merit testing programme and tomorrow players will also be presented with the tournament awards from last season,For more details, contact the BFA office on 295-9972 or at info@bermudagolf.org.Meanwhile, the BGA Team Medal Championships will be held at Riddell’s Bay, starting at 1pm.The entry fee is $100 for non-Riddell’s Bay members and $50 for members and juniors.The entry deadline is Friday at 2pm, with a $10 fee applied to any late entries.That will be followed by the September Monthly Medal at Port Royal on Saturday, September 21.Golfers can sign up by e-mailing info@bermudagolf.org or calling the BGA office at 295-9972.Organisers of the Haiti Village Health golf tournament on September 28 at Port Royal are still looking for players to compete.The event is aimed at raising funds to support the Haiti Village Health clinic in northern Haiti which provides medical care to some 25,000 people.The fundraising target is $15,000 with each player pay a $150 entry fee.Those interested in submitting a team can do so by e-mailing hvhgolf@gmail.com and providing the four participants names and e-mail addresses.Those interested in sponsoring a hole or donating prizes can also make contact through the same e-mail address.For further details about the charity visit the website www.haitivillagehealth.com
