Local junior golfer Arriek Douglas put in a solid showing in challenging conditions at the weekend’s Central Florida Golf Classic held at the Harmony Golf Club in St Cloud.

Douglas, who currently attends Mount Verde Academy in Florida, carded a seven-over-par 151 during the 36-hole tournament that earned him an impressive 12th place finish in a field of 60 in the boys 15-18 age group.

The former Warwick Academy student’s game peaked in the opening round when he signed off with a two-over -par 74 which he followed up with an equally impressive five-over-par 77 in the final round.

“Round one was one of my best rounds in a few months and was highlighted by staying focused and having a good attitude,” Douglas explained. “I was able to back up my first round successfully in order to place inside the top fifteen. My second round took more patience as my putting was not as good as the first day.

“Overall I was very pleased with my performance and looking forward to future competitions.”

Also flying Bermuda’s banner in Florida was Cory DeSilva who carded a two-day total of 22 over par (166) that left him in a tie for 47th.

Florida resident Carl Yuan (138) won the 15-18 boys title by four shots over Mexican Evaristo Rubio (142).

Last weekend’s tournament was sanctioned by the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.
