Dillas 24th in South Carolina tournament

Jarryd Dillas finished 24th at the Azalea Invitational in South Carolina

Jarryd Dillas recorded a top-25 finish at the 68th Azalea Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina last weekend.

The top local amateur carded scores of 72, 68, 74 and 72 on his way to a 24th place finish at the par-71 course at the Country Club of Charleston.

“Overall, I was very happy with my performance,” Dillas said. “Last week was far and away the best result I’ve ever had at the Azalea and definitely gives me some confidence heading into the summer.”

Dillas, who last month won his fifth Bermuda Amateur Match Play title, was particularly pleased with his par-5 scoring on the Seth Raynor designed course. “I was nine-under on the three par-5s for the week, which was second only to the winner who played them in ten-under,” Dillas noted.

“I sometimes feel like I don’t take full advantage of my length off the tee, so it was nice to play the par-5 holes so well for four consecutive days.”

Andy Zhang from China won the tournament in a runaway after rounds of 67-67-67-68 earned him a six-stroke victory.

Zhang made history back in 2012 when, at the age of 14, he became the youngest player to ever participate in the US Open after replacing the injured Paul Casey in the major championship field.
