Augustus encouraged by solid showing

Room for improvement: Daniel Augustus finished tied for ninth

Daniel Augustus received a huge confidence boost after producing a solid display at the Charlie’s Maine Open that finished yesterday at the Augusta Country Club in Manchester, Maine.

The Bermuda professional completed the 36-hole championship at four-under-par 136, which earned him a share of ninth in an overall field of 95 players.

“It was a decent showing and I’m happy with trending in the right direction,” said Augustus, who carded identical rounds of two-under 68 at the 6,214-yard Augusta CC layout.

“I hit it great; I had four birdies on the back. But had a couple bad breaks like ten today when I took a double. I hit it five yards right of the fairway and never found my ball. But fought back and I’m proud of that.

“There’s still room for improvement and that’s what I will be looking to do before my next event. I’m getting better every tournament but still need to tidy the scorecard up a bit more.”

Matt Campbell, of New York, won the tournament for a second time after prevailing against Peter French, of Franklin, Massachusetts, in a play-off.

Campbell shot a bogey free seven-under 63 in the final round, which included five birdies and an eagle at the par 3, 2nd.
