Belmont to host second Corona Super6

XL Catlin won the Corona Golf Super6 tournament last year

The Bermuda Golf Association in partnership with Corona Extra and Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Club will be hosting the second annual Corona Golf Super6 this month.

The Corona Golf Super6 is a modified stableford points, four-man team event with a 75 per cent handicap adjustment.

The handicap used throughout the duration of the event will be the player’s Golf Handicap and Information Network as of May 15. The maximum gross handicap for men will be 24 and 30 for women.

Each team will play six holes, over a six-week period in a progressive shotgun format starting at 6pm each Thursday from May 30.

Teams will compete to accrue placement points each week. A double offering of placement points will be on offer during the final three weeks.

At the end of the six week league, the team with the most accrued points will be crowned the Corona Golf Super6 Champion Team of the Year.

Last year, XL Catlin earned victory in a strong showing in the final weeks.

The team entry fee is $1,000 for a total of six registered players ($167 per player) and includes 36 holes over the six-week period, green fees and cart.

On any given on Thursday, four of the six registered players can represent the team. Special guests, which include visitors to the island can play for a team and register on the day of play for $100.

Craig Brown, the Bermuda Golf Association president, said: “Golfers are finding less available time to enjoy a traditional full round of 18 holes.

“Last year we introduced this format with our main goal to offer a fun, relaxed golf atmosphere encouraging more people, including women to play the sport. This year we have a Ladies Day on June 27 and our sponsors will be providing special drinks and prizes for the ladies.”

All the funds raised will benefit the long-term charitable programme plan of the Bermuda Golf Foundation.

“The Corona Golf Super6 is open to all golf clubs, community clubs, sports clubs, corporate companies and groups of friends,” Brown added.

“It is a six-week event, concluding on July 11 except for Thursday, July 4 [American Independence Day].

“We wish to thank our sponsors, for their assistance: Corona Extra, Premier Tix, Belmont Hills Golf Club, Divots restaurant and APEX Physio.”
