Augustus confident the best is yet to come

Daniel Augustus hopes his impressive showing at the New Hampshire Open presented by Xfinity is a launching pad for bigger and better things to come.

The Bermudian professional golfer finished tied for 11th at five-under-par, 211 in a field of 143 at the 54-hole tournament held at both the Bretwood Golf Course and Keene Country Club in New England from June 20 to 22.

Augustus carded identical rounds of one-under par 71 during the opening two rounds and saved the best for last as he fired a three -under par 69 during the final round at the Bretwood Golf Course to finish with a bang.

“Overall, I am pleased with my progress,” the 32-year-old said. “It's the type of performance I've been expecting to put in.

“I was going through a rough spell so this result means a lot to me.

“I have been putting a lot of hours into every aspect of my game. Hopefully this leads to a run of good form.”

Augustus's blistering final round at the par 72 layout included six birdies and three bogeys.

“I really had no expectations,” he added. “I just wanted to continue to improve in every area.

“Hopefully I can continue to build in a positive manner. That's always the goal, progress.”

While he is encouraged with his performance Augustus admits he could have done better with the putter.

“The one thing that I wasn't so pleased with was I had six three putts,” he said. “I make those two putts and in win the tournament by one shot.”

Michael Kartrude outlasted Paul Pastore and Jared Mactus on the first playoff hole to win the tournament after the trio finished the championship at 10-under par, 206.

Kartude, who started the final round two shots back of leader Pastore, caught fire with the putter when it mattered most as he birdied the final three holes in regulation to enter into a playoff.

The Florida resident then clinched the title on the first extra hole by rolling in a fourth successive birdie at the par 4, 18th hole.
