Daniel Augustus capped off his Advocate Pro Golf Association Tour campaign with an impressive third-place finish in the Farmers Insurance Fall Series Finale at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club in California.

After shooting a 1-under 71 on the opening day, the Bermudian followed it up with a second round of 69, which consisted of five birdies, 16 pars and two bogeys to finish in a four-way tie for third alongside Tim O’Neal, Andrew Walker and Toks Pedro, three strokes off winner Michael Bradham.

While the 35-year-old was content with his endeavours this season, which included three top-three finishes and nine top-tens, he conceded to being slightly disappointed at falling short of fulfilling his ambition of a victory on the Tour.

“Overall, it was a solid way to end the year but I’m only satisfied when I win if I’m being honest,” said Augustus, who finds himself eighth in the Lexus Cup standings.

“One of my goals this year was to win an APGA event. I gave myself plenty of opportunities all year, including this week. I gave myself the chance to win and so I’m very happy about that.

“I was consistent this year, even in my not-so-good tournaments. I’m hoping to build upon that and the finish I had this week at Tustin Ranch going into next year.”

Reflecting back on his latest outing, Augustus has taken confidence from still being able to secure a strong finish, despite not being at his best with his approach play making up for inconsistent driving.

“The two rounds were very squirrelly off the tee to be honest,” he added. “I was hitting my driver very poorly but I was able to hit shots into the greens from some very bad areas. I escaped trouble too many times and had too many unforced errors off the tee. Fortunately I was able to create shots.

“I struggled to get loose the first day. The range was closed due to the bad weather from the previous two days, so I got off to a bad start needless to say. Even though I warmed up the second round I still struggled with my driver for the most part.

“Had it not been for good wedge play around the greens and solid iron shots out of trouble I could have shot way worse scores but thankfully that kept me in it.

“I’m getting closer to my overall goals and I’m grateful for the strides I’m making in my game. To be able to finish third despite all of the difficulties shows the maturity in my game. I just need to stay focused and continue to improve.”
