The Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships in Jamaica have been postponed as a result of the threat posed by Hurricane Beryl.

With the storm expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surges to Jamaica pn Wednesday, the CAJGC committee made the decision to reschedule the competition, with the new dates now August 5 to 10.

Darrin Lewis, the Bermuda Golf Association general secretary, stated that while Bermuda’s players were disheartened by the decision, their wellbeing was of prime concern.

“The boys are extremely disappointed as they were really excited to be going to Jamaica to represent their country in the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships,’’ Lewis said.

“However, safety is priority and the Jamaica Golf Association used all their resources regarding the path of Hurricane Beryl and decided in the best interest of safety to postpone the tournament.”

Some of Bermuda’s promising golfers, Dylan Muso, Arman Newton and Lewis MacFarlane were this week meant to make history by teeing off in St Catherine, Jamaica, after the BGA recently earned Caribbean Golf Association associate member status.

When the competition does take place, Muso will put his skills to the test in the under-18 division, Newton in the under-15 division and MacFarlane, the youngest member of the local group at 11, in the under-13 division.
