Adam Perry proves practice does not always make perfect
It is often said that “practice makes perfect”. That is unless you are Adam Perry, who finds himself perched atop the Moongate Tour Order of Merit despite not having spent any time on the driving range and putting greens this year.
“I’m happy to be leading the Order of Merit and I think mentally I do well in the events because I have shown up with zero expectations,” Perry told The Royal Gazette.
“I haven’t practised once this year so there is no reason to put pressure and expectations on myself.”
The professional golfer presently holds a 150-point advantage over defending Order of Merit champion Kenny Leseur heading into third round of the championship at Tucker’s Point Golf Club on Friday.
Perry has finished in the top three in the two previous two rounds after winning the Tour’s season opener at Port Royal Golf Course and finished tied for third last time out at Five Forts Golf Club.
He now hopes to continue his steady form and solidify his lead competing against a stellar field that includes fellow top contenders Quinton Sherlock, Nick Jones and Dwayne Pearman and Leseur.
Sherlock and Pearman shared the spotlight after finishing tied for first in the previous round and will be keen to build on their momentum heading into today’s medal event.
“Got a good group this Friday, so even if I don’t play my best the vibes will be good,” Perry said.
“I’ve played a lot of golf at Tucker’s Point, so course strategy won’t be the issue. Will all come down to ball striking and putting.”
The field also includes two females in professional Ebonie Cox and amateur Sienna Mosquera.
Lehigh University Golf Team member Mosquera is fresh off competing at last week’s Connecticut Women’s Open where she finished tied for 33rd among a formidable field.
