The Butterfield Bermuda Championship Local Qualifier has been revised this year.

Tournament organisers have announced that the top three players will again earn exemption but only the top two will compete in this year’s main event at Port Royal Golf Course.

The third place finisher will have to wait until next year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship to showcase their skills against an elite line-up of PGA Tour professionals along with the other three local qualifiers.

“This year you will note we are providing two exemptions into the 2026 tournament and one into the 2027 tournament. This means that in 2027 we will see four Bermudian golfers compete on the world’s grandest golf stage,” Danielle Carrera, the tournament director, said.

The Local Qualifier will be held on September 8 and 9 at Port Royal Golf Course.

The 36-hole tournament is open exclusively to Bermudian professional golfers, amateur golfers and other local players who meet eligibility requirements.

Players must possess Bermudian status or equivalent, be in good standing with the Bermuda Golf Association and Bermuda Professional Golfers Association and not subject to any disciplinary process or sanction of either association.

Amateurs must have an up-to-date Handicap Index, or equivalent handicap issued by an international body of golf, not exceeding 1.4 under the USGA Handicap System.

Professional Kenny Leseur and amateurs Oliver Betschart and Will Haddrell were the three local qualifiers for the 2025 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

The championship has quickly become a highlight of the island’s sporting calendar, attracting world-class players, passionate fans and international media coverage. For local competitors, the qualifier is more than just a tournament — it’s an opportunity to represent Bermuda on the PGA Tour and inspire the next generation of golfers.

The event will take place at Port Royal from October 22 to 25.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Gosling’s Bermuda Open at Port Royal will also earn exemption to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship as well as $10,000 in prize money.

The 54-hole event is open to professional and amateurs and will be held at Port Royal from September 10 to 12.

An exciting addition this year is the introduction of the Junior Bermuda Open, which will also be held at the Southampton golf course on September 12.
