Junior golfers up for North America Cup challenge

Bermuda’s junior golfers arrived at the North America Cup in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, feeling inspired after completing a successful training camp in Toronto last week.

The island’s nine-member team were put through their paces during the two-day exercise geared towards sharpening their technical skills, team bonding and boosting confidence in the lead-up to this week’s North America Cup involving Canada, Guatemala and hosts Mexico.

“The recent two-day mini golf camp was an incredible experience for me and the rest of the Bermuda golf team,” Bermuda captain Sa-Qui Robinson told The Royal Gazette.

“Over the course of the camp we further developed our driving, chipping and putting, learnt new techniques, and built stronger team work. The focused training sessions, combined with fun and competitive mini games, helped boost our confidence and sharpen our game.

“This camp not only improved our individual abilities but also brought us closer as a team, setting us up for success in the future tournament.

“On behalf of the Bermuda golf team, we would like to sincerely thank Henry Brunton and Rhonda Fleury for taking the time out to help us prepare for our upcoming tournament. Their support and dedication to the game of golf is greatly appreciated among the team.

“Overall, it was a rewarding and enjoyable event that left everyone motivated and excited to keep improving.”

Arman Newton, William Weston, Grayson Tavares, Ramsey Soutter, Lachlan Soutter, Max Parry, Damian Moniz and Kailia Matthews are the remaining members of Bermuda’s team.

Robinson, Newton, Weston, Tavares and Ramsey and Lachlan Soutter are competing in the Junior Boys’ division, Parry and Moniz in the Bantam Boys’ division and Matthews in the Bantam Girls’ division.

The North America Cup will be played over three days with players experiencing different formats of team golf. They will compete as individuals, pairs and as a team, accumulating points through head to head competition.

This format provides the participants with a different experience from the individual tournament golf they play throughout the year.

The tournament will be held at the Greg Norman designed Vidanta Vallarta golf course, which hosts the PGA Tour’s Vidanta World Mexico Open, from August 24 to 26.
