Locals take on top international players in Bermuda Open
A busy week for golf on island continues with the opening round of the Gosling’s Bermuda Open on Thursday.
Less than 24 hours after Nick Jones, Camiko Smith and Daniel Augustus booked their spots in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship after occupying the top three spots in the Local Qualifier, some of the island’s top talent will again be in action.
But this time it is not only the best of Bermuda that will need to be beaten to come out on top of the pack, with the $50,000 prize fund attracting professionals from the United States.
Tyler Hull, a Canadian professional who finished third in the event last year, will be hoping to go a couple of places better in the 54-hole tournament, which takes place over three days at Port Royal Golf Course.
Of the Bermuda contingent, Kenny Leseur will be hoping to bounce back to form after relinquishing a two-shot lead with nine holes to play in the Local qualifier, while Oliver Betschart is entered despite struggling with a back injury this week.
