Gift bags bring holiday cheer to patients

Spreading cheer: Volunteers with some of the gift bags that were distributed to patients at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Hundreds of patients unlucky enough to find themselves in hospital over Christmas, had a happier holiday thanks to the work of the Bermuda Junior Service League (BJSL).Local businesses donated enough merchandise to enable the BJSL to assemble 401 Christmas bags for adults and children.“These generous gift bags were distributed to patients of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Agape House, and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute on Christmas morning, bringing Christmas cheer and merriment to those who must spend their holiday in the hospital,” said Takara Dill, project chairperson.Major sponsors included ACE Bermuda Insurance, BF&M Insurance Group, CellOne, AS Cooper and Sons Ltd, Ernst & Young, The Market Place Ltd, Bacardi Limited, John Barritt and Son Limited . A number of stores in Bermuda contributed.“The BJSL would like to thank the chairperson of this project, Takara Dill, and the BJSL members that made the project happen who were Sherrie Nusum, Francezia Campbell, Cindy Clarke, Janey Kim-Cave, Amy Adderley, Zalikah Ratteray, and Tajuana Dean for all their hard work and dedication,” said Ms Dill. “We would also like to extend our thanks to the Department of Public Prosecutions who assisted with the assembly as well as distribution of the bags.”BJSL is an organisation of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community.
