Men on the Island are being asked to prepare their upper lips because Movember is almost here.

The fourth annual Movember Bermuda fundraiser is set to start next Friday, with men growing moustaches to raise awareness and funding for local men’s health programmes.

Deborah Titterton Narraway, marketing and fundraising manager at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, said Movember Bermuda has raised over $300,000 since its inception and impacted the lives of hundreds of men in Bermuda, providing an annual health screening clinic and direct access to their physicians. The iconic facial hair also sparks conversations about men’s health issues — an estimated 2,413 every Movember in Bermuda.

This year’s event launches at 5.30pm on November 1 with a kickoff party at Elbow Beach, where “Mo Bros” will get shaved with the assistance of the staff of The Cutting Room. Movember ends on November 30 with a second event, where the participants will be honoured for their competition with a number of awards.

Women are also encouraged to join in the fun by becoming “Mo Sistas”, supporting events, encouraging participation and encouraging the men in their lives to be proactive with their health.
