Nothing says healthcare like an elephant

BHB mascot: Eddie the Elephant

Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) have introduced its mascot — Eddie the Elephant.

Named after King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, the elephant will be used to help educate the public on the departments’ move to the new Acute Care Wing in September.

Eddie will visit schools and in the coming months and walking on the streets in special educational promotions.

An elephant was chosen as the hospital’s mascot because it is a symbol of strength, stability and long life.

“Our Public Relations Department listed ten advantages elephants possess that would aid various health promotions,” said BHB CEO Venetta Symonds. “Three are strength, stability and long life.

“If you can guess the remaining seven, send your response to our Public Relations Department for the chance to get your photo taken with Eddie.”

Members of the public should e-mail cathy.stovell@bhb.bm with their answers and contact details by Friday, February 28.
