Buses, ferries to resume ‘soon as possible’

Bus and ferry services will not return to the island until proper physical distancing measures are in place on vehicles, the Government said yesterday.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism and Transport said that a team was “working to resume public transportation services as soon as possible”.

He added: “To that end, we are putting in place the necessary practices and procedures to provide adequate levels of physical distancing to protect our customers and help prevent the spread of Covid-19 when using the bus or ferry service.

“Once we are confident that we can safely resume services, the public will be informed.”

The spokesman said: “The team at the Ministry of Tourism and Transport take this opportunity to remind and encourage all members of the public to act responsibly by practising physical distancing and wear their face masks whenever they go outside, especially when using public transportation.”

David Burt, the Premier, said last Friday that “limited” public transport services were to resume this week.

He added then that the transport minister would announce the schedule.
