People who went to two nightspots last week should get an urgent test for the coronavirus, a health official warned last night.

The health ministry spokeswoman said customers at Legends Bar, on Somerset Road, Sandys between March 6 and March 12 may have been exposed.

She added people who were at the Blue Water Angler’s Club on East Broadway near Hamilton last Wednesday could also be at risk of exposure.

The spokeswoman told the public: “If you attended these businesses on these dates please get tested as soon as possible.“

She was speaking as it was announced that five new coronavirus cases were recorded yesterday.

The new infections were among 1,630 test results received over the weekend.

Two of the infections were people who arrived on the island by air.

One case came off the British Airways flight from London last Thursday and tested positive on arrival.

A resident who arrived on the Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta on February 27 tested positive on their Day 14 test.

The third new case was classed as an on-island transmission with a known contact.

The other two infections are under investigation as they were residents with no link to known cases or history of travel in the past 14 days.

But the number of active cases dropped to 29 after seven people recovered from the condition.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, said the Bermuda College vaccination centre would accept walk-ins tomorrow for people aged 65 or over who cannot register for the vaccination online and those aged 50 or more.

But Ms Wilson added: “However, again, please note that priority will be given to those 65 or older.”

She said walk-in appointments would be accepted between 3pm and 6.45pm only.

Ms Wilson also thanked the Summerhaven Residental Home in Smith’s for its donation of two wheelchairs to the college clinic to assist people with difficulty walking.

She said: “Their kindess and genorosity are greatly appreciated.”

Ms Wilson added that, if people had travelled, they could not get either dose of the Covid-19 vaccine until they had had a clear Day 14 test.

The island has had 740 cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic hit last March, with 12 deaths and 699 recovered.

A total of 512 were classed as local transmissions - 420 of them with a known contact and 92 with an unknown contact.

The number of cases that have come in from overseas is 221.

The source of seven cases is still under investigation.

The average age of cases is 43, with an age range from less than one to more than 100.

The average age of active cases is 36, with an age range of less than 20 to more than 70.

The average age for deaths is 75, with an age range of less than 60 to more than 80.
