Police break up party in breach of Covid-19 regulations

Police broke up a birthday party that breached Covid-19 regulations on Sunday night.

A police spokesman said the organiser, a 40-year-old woman, was reported for prosecution.

The venue, said to be a guest house in the East End, was not identified.

A birthday celebration with 34 guests was discovered at the property after officers responded to a noise complaint at about 7.30pm.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes said the property manager was told the event was in breach of Covid-19 regulations and had to end.

The organiser was ordered by the manager to tell guests to leave.

Mr Weekes said the investigation continued and that anyone with information that could help should contact police.

Gatherings are restricted to a maximum of 25 people under restrictions designed to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Larger events must get an exemption from the Minister of National Security.

Exemption applications can be found here.
