Baby lounger recalled over suffocation risk

A Boppy newborn lounger of the type recalled (Image supplied)

A lounger designed for newborn babies has been recalled because of risk of suffocation, it was announced yesterday.

A government spokesman said anyone who had Boppy Newborn Loungers should stop using them.

She added: “Infants can suffocate if they roll, move, or are placed on the lounger in a position that obstructs breathing or roll off the lounger on to an external surface, such as an adult pillow or soft bedding, that obstructs breathing.

“The public is advised to discontinue the use of this product immediately.”

The Government acted after the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer, Boppy, asked people who had bought the items to return them.

The spokesman said Boppy Newborn Loungers were sold at two stores on-island, but did not identify them.

The loungers were also available online from Pottery Barn Kids, Target, Walmart and Amazon.com, among others.

The spokesman said: “Consumers who purchased the loungers locally can wait to be contacted by the store for a refund or return it directly to the store.

“Consumers who purchased the item online or overseas are advised to contact the Boppy Company at www.boppy.com and click on recall to receive a refund or call 800-416-1355.”

This story was been corrected on October 5, 2021 to replace the image of a Boppy baby lounger with a Boppy newborn lounger.
