Covid-19 has affected classes at Bermuda High School

Students across seven year groups at Bermuda High School were forced to study from home yesterday as a result of positive Covid-19 cases being detected.

Linda Parker, the school’s head teacher, sent a letter to parents on Sunday advising that owing to positive lateral flow tests results and subsequent PCR tests results among the year 11 student body, learning would be online for years 7 to 13.

Year 11 students will be learning remotely for the rest of this week. Students who were deemed close contacts have been contacted by the Ministry of Health and are in quarantine.

The remainder of BHS’s secondary students were back in school as of today.

All year 11 students and staff have been tested. None of the year 11 teachers are considered close contacts and have been allowed to return to work, the school confirmed.

Ms Parker said: “We continue to follow all government protocols for Phase 3 including year group bubbles, mask wearing and social distancing.

“This coupled with our screening programme, a high vaccination rate among our eligible students and 100 per cent of our staff being vaccinated, means that we are learning to live with Covid-19 and maintain our in-person school experience, when possible, for our staff and students.”
