Health minister: Covid-19 antivirals still in stock

Tablets that can suppress Covid-19 for at-risk patients remain in supply, health officials said today.

The Ministry of Health issued a reminder that the antiviral medicines Paxlovid and Molnupiravir could be prescribed to eligible patients by a doctor.

A shipment of both drugs arrived last month from the UK.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, said they showed success in tackling mild to moderate Covid-19 in people deemed high risk for serious illness – with potential to avert hospital treatment or death from the illness.

Paxlovid is for those at risk aged 12 and above weighing at least 88lbs.

Molnupiravir can be given to high-risk people age 18 and older who are not able to use other outpatient treatment options for Covid-19.

Anyone suspecting they have symptoms of the virus should get tested and inform their physician as soon as possible if found positive.

A doctor can determine eligibility – but the antivirals should be taken as quickly as possible, no later than five days after first symptoms.

These pills are taken at home two times a day for five days.

Pharmacies stocking the drugs are listed online by the Bermuda Health Council.
