New and experienced blood donors will have a chance to win a $250 gift card during a Valentine’s Day-themed raffle.

The Bermuda Hospitals Board has invited existing blood donors to bring a new donor during their next visit for a chance to have both names submitted to their Valentine’s Day Raffle.

The draw, which ends on February 14, offers a chance to win a $250 gift certificate to Masters.

Lucy Correia, a nurse phlebotomist, said that the hardware store donated the gift cards as a way to help the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre thank donors.

She added: “We always need more blood donors, but we also need people who can donated platelets, which is a special type of donation called apheresis.

“First-time blood donors can be tested to see if they fit the criteria.

“Platelets are used for patients who have compromised immune systems, such as cancer and leukaemia patients.”

The centre reminded donors that those who spent time in Britain between 1980 and 1996 can now take part in the drive.

Those who want to book can contact the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre by telephone at 236-5067, through WhatsApp on 533-9553 or by e-mail at blood.donor@bhb.bm.
