Systems running normally as power is restored to hospital

Power was returned to the hospital this morning with all systems running normally, according to a spokeswoman for the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

Last night an internal electrical failure in the acute care wing of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital caused the BHB to urge patients to attend only in cases of emergency.

The hospital was put on Alert Level 3 after emergency generators stopped running.

The spokeswoman said that Paget Health Services building managers were called to work on the problem, which also impacted operations in the general wing.

This morning, the spokeswoman said that “all power has been restored in the acute care wing and all systems are running normally”.

She added: “Departments that provide outpatient services will be contacting patients and clients who had appointments booked today, and advise them when to come in.

“If you have an appointment for today, please contact the department directly before attending the hospital.

“The hospital is now at Alert Level 1 and has reopened fully to the public.”

No cause for the outage was given.
